MEET THE SUNBURY EYE & VISION TEAM
Geoff Demare
I moved to Australia from Canada in 2013, completing my Doctor of Optometry at the University of Melbourne.
After graduating, I practiced in rural New South Wales for three years, helping people of all ages care for their eyes and vision. I enjoy working collaboratively with GPs and specialists, prescribing medicated eye drops, and tailoring optical solutions to the needs of my patients.
I came to Sunbury in January 2020, where I’ve furthered my skills in children's vision. I also really enjoy helping people manage their dry eye disease with at-home and office-based therapies.
Practice Principal Optometrist
ROD BAKER
I have been based in Sunbury since 2005 with particular interests in how vision impacts child and adolescent health and rehabilitation.
I’ve been a Fellow of the College of Optometry since 1990, with various contributions including Head of Paediatric Services, Manager of Continuing Education, and Chair of Clinical Services.
I graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1988, where I am currently an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer. I strive to contribute to the health of a diversity of people of all ages.
Senior Associate Optometrist
JULIANA TOBIN
I started working in optics in 1984, eventually bringing my skills to Sunbury in 1988.
I think the best outcomes in optics come from really understanding people and building relationships with them.
Being in the Sunbury community for so many years has given me the chance to assist many different families.
Now I get to enjoy continuing these relationships with the second and third-generation families that I see at the practice.

ALANA MACLEOD
My optics journey kicked off when I got glasses for the first time at seven years old.
I started working in optics while living in Tasmania in 2005, eventually bringing that experience to Sunbury Optical, near where I grew up.
I love finding frames that make people feel great. Nothing beats the look on a child’s face when they see the world through their first pair of glasses. Optics even follows me home, with two of my children now wearing glasses.

I came to Sunbury Optical on placement in 2018. Dissatisfied with my career in project management, I wanted to use my passion for problem-solving to help people more directly.
This journey brought me to optics – the perfect balance of working with my head and working with my hands. I’ve worked in various private practices, as well as in public health at the Australian College of Optometry, returning to Sunbury in 2022.
I love the complexity of optics. Nothing makes me happier than figuring out something others might think impossible and giving everyone the best sight they can achieve.

I joined the team at Sunbury Optical at the start of 2023, bringing over 16 years of experience in optics. I’m passionate about my patients and will always go above and beyond to give everyone the best service.
There’s so much variety in my job; no two days are the same. We have an amazing team here. I love that I can be a part of it and contribute to such a long history of eyecare in my community.
