DRY EYE CARE
WHAT IS DRY EYE?
Dry Eye Disease (DED) is a chronic health condition caused by issues with the tear film that keeps your eyes hydrated.
Sometimes, your eyes don’t produce enough tears, or the balance of oil and water isn’t right, and they evaporate too quickly. DED is uncomfortable and irritating and impacts your vision and quality of life.
Symptoms include:
-
Tired eyes
-
Watery eyes
-
Blurred or fluctuating vision
-
Sore, gritty, or irritated eyes
-
Red eyes
-
Light sensitivity
WHO HAS DRY EYE?
Dry eye is surprisingly common, affecting around 20% of Australians. It’s one of the most common reasons for seeing an optometrist (OA, Vision 2020 report).
Contributing factors include:
-
Prolonged computer use
-
Dry climates, air-conditioning, and heating
-
Contact lens wear
-
Certain auto-immune conditions
-
Some medications, including for blood pressure, diabetes, reflux, anti-depressants, and anti-histamines
-
Certain skin conditions and allergies
Women are generally more susceptible, especially when pregnant, peri- or post-menopausal
TREATMENT
We offer OptiLight™ Intense Pulsed Light therapy (IPL), the only FDA and TGA-approved IPL device for dry eye. IPL reduces inflammation, softens blocked oil glands, and stimulates associated nerves to restore healthy gland function.
The number of treatments varies based on severity and will be recommended by your optometrist. These sessions are conducted in-office at regular intervals.
We also stock a range of dry eye products to alleviate your symptoms.
